Wikimedia lance la quatrième édition de son concours mondial Wiki Loves Monuments

Wiki Loves Monuments, concours photo géant pour illustrer les monuments historiques, les sites classés et le patrimoine culturel est lancé pour la quatrième fois dans plus de 45 pays en 2013. Objectif: battre le record de partiicpation 2012 avec  plus de 350 000 photos versées (dont 27 029 pour la France).

Du 1er au 30 septembre 2013 aura lieu la quatrième édition du concours photographique Wiki Loves Monuments, occasion pour des milliers de contributeurs de plus de 45 pays de télécharger leurs photographies de sites historiques, de monuments historiques et de patrimoine culturel.

En 2013, plus d’une dizaine de nouveaux pays rejoignent l’aventure, qui  s’étend jusqu’en Antarctique. Cela permettra sans doute de battre de nouveau le record du «  plus grand concours photographique   » (350 000 photos versées en un mois l’an dernier), déjà  obtenu par les éditions 2011 et 2012.

Cette édition 2013 a une saveur toute particulière pour la France car elle coà¯ncide avec le centenaire de la loi relative aux monuments historiques. Bien que cette édition 2013 soit la troisième à  avoir lieu en France et que le périmètre reste le même ˆ’ à  savoir les monuments historiques reconnus par le Ministère de la Culture ˆ’ il reste énormément de possibilités. Que ce soit en apportant de nouvelles images de monuments déjà  illustrés sur Wikipédia, ou en allant photographier un des 19 000 monuments non encore illustrés.

Des photographies libres pour illustrer le patrimoine culturel mondial

Puisque les photos sont proposées sous une licence libre, elles ne seront pas rangées sur une étagère ou accessibles seulement sur un site payant. Elles seront disponibles sur la plus populaire des encyclopédies en ligne, Wikipédia, et une grande part de ces photographies vont être utilisées sur ses articles. Elles sont également réutilisables par n’importe qui dans le monde pour n’importe quel usage, aussi longtemps qu’elles seront sous cette licence libre.

«Il y a des millions de monuments historiques et culturels significatifs tout autour du monde, et un grand nombre d’entre eux n’ont toujours pas d’image librement réutilisable sur internet. Ces monuments sont souvent inconnus du grand public, qui n’a pas souvent l’occasion de pouvoir les visiter », signale Lodewijk Gelauff, un des fondateurs du premier concours Wiki Loves Monuments en 2010. «Wiki Loves Monuments est un moyen important pour les bénévoles du monde entier de mettre en valeur le patrimoine culturel de leur pays et de partager leurs images avec tout le monde par l’intermédiaire de Wikipédia ».

Plus de 43 000 monuments à  photographier en France

La France compte environ 43 000 monuments historiques datant de l’Antiquité à  nos jours, répartis sur l’ensemble du territoire. Ces monuments historiques sont des b timents ou des constructions humaines remarquables, protégés du fait de leur intérêt historique, artistique, social ou technique.

Au fil des années Wikipédia s’est considérablement enrichi d’illustration sur le sujet et aujourd’hui plus de 25 000 monuments historiques français sont illustrés sur les projets Wikimédia. Il en reste par conséquent près de 19 000 à  illustrer, des listes exhaustives ont été établies sur Wikipédia : il en existe sà»rement près de chez vous !

Les 10 photos gagnantes et le premier prix de Wiki Loves Monuments seront annoncés au cours du mois de novembre. Le gagnant du grand prix sera invité à  un voyage photo à  Londres lors de la conférence annuelle des contributeurs des projets Wikimédia, Wikimania 2014 (en aoà»t 2014).
