Le 27 mars 2024, Art Fund a annoncé les derniers bénéficiaires du programme de prêts d’oeuvres Weston, qui aide les petits musées à emprunter des œuvres majeures auprès de musées nationaux ou majeurs, ainsi que les organisations qui seront partenaires dans la phase de développement du nouveau programme de tournée collaborative, « Going Places ».

Les deux projets permettent aux musées et galeries du Royaume-Uni de « forger de nouveaux partenariats pour partager leurs collections avec les communautés locales ».

De nouveaux bénéficiaires des prêts d’oeuvres Weston

Douze galeries et musées régionaux €“ du Pier Arts Centre dans les Orcades au MAC à Belfast et au York Army Museum €“ ont reçu des subventions pour de nouvelles expositions dans le cadre du dernier cycle du programme de prêts Weston avec Art Fund.

Ce programme, soutenu par la Fondation Garfield Weston, permet des prêts importants auprès d’institutions nationales, dont la National Portrait Gallery et la Tate.

Les 12 nouveaux bénéficiaires du programme de prêt Weston comprennent : Nottingham Contemporary pour la première grande rétrospective de l’artiste noir britannique Donald Rodney; The Granary Gallery, Maltings (Berwick) Trust pour une exposition explorant la fascination de Lowry pour la mer et le Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery pour une exposition racontant l’histoire peu connue de la collectionneuse d’art américaine Peggy Guggenheim, qui vivait près de Petersfield.

Les prêts rendus possibles gr ce au programme comprennent le bureau de Jane Austen voyageant à la God’s House Tower à Southampton dans le cadre d’une célébration du 250e anniversaire de l’écrivain; les paysages marins de LS Lowry exposés à Berwick et deux pichets du XIVe siècle qui empruntaient les routes commerciales jusqu’à Kumasi et la cour Asante dans le sud du Ghana, qui sont prêtées par le British Museum pour une exposition au York Army Museum.

Un budget total de 308 606 £ a été attribué dans le cadre de ce cycle, ce qui porte le total des subventions à près de 1,6 million de £ à 93 organisations depuis le lancement du programme en 2017.

Nouveau programme d’expositions itinérantes collaboratives, Going Places

23 organisations artistiques et patrimoniales ont également été sélectionnées pour participer à la phase de développement de Going Places d’Art Fund, un nouveau programme à l’échelle du Royaume-Uni qui fera participer certains publics aux collections de musées à travers des expositions itinérantes collaboratives, avec le soutien principal du National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Les organisations participant à la phase de développement de ce nouveau programme couvrent tout le Royaume-Uni : de l’Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum au Inverness Museum & Art Gallery, en passant par TÅ· Pawb à Wrexham et Penlee House Gallery & Museum à Penzance.

Sept réseaux ont été créés pour élaborer deux expositions itinérantes sur cinq ans. Les communautés locales seront impliquées dans l’élaboration des thèmes des expositions et des programmes de sensibilisation et apporteront leur voix à chaque exposition en réinterprétant les collections pour raconter de nouvelles histoires.

Si Art Fund réunit des financements complémentaires auprès du National Lottery Heritage Fund et d’autres mécènes, les réseaux continueront à produire des expositions avec leur public à travers le pays de 2025 à 2030.

Going Places s’appuie sur les recommandations du rapport de recherche 2022 Going Places: Touring and shared exhibitions in the UK, commandé par Art Fund et Creative Scotland, qui a révélé que « les partenariats de tournées et d’expositions partagées sont un moyen clé de répondre à la demande du public d’expositions de qualité, et accessibles ».
