Centre PHI (Montréal) présente une nouvelle programmation inédite associant réalité augmentée et réalité virtuelle

Du 7 février au 28 avril 2024, le Centre PHI propose une nouvelle programmation inédite jumelant réalité augmentée et réalité virtuelle. Acclamées dans les plus grands festivals, les expériences française « Noire: la vie méconnue de Claudette Colvin » et anglaise « In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats [à€ la poursuite du beat répétitif] » sont ainsi présentées en première canadienne à  Montréal.  

Cette programmation inédite du Centre PHI intègre donc la réalité augmentée gr ce aux nouveaux casques HoloLens 2 mais également une nouvelle œuvre en réalité virtuelle.

Aux allures documentaires, ces œuvres sont à  la fois différentes de par leur thème, mais semblables avec le message subversif qu’elles supportent: les droits civiques aux à‰tats-Unis et la culture interdite du rave au Royaume-Uni.

« Rosa Parks est souvent considérée comme une figure emblématique de la lutte contre la ségrégation raciale aux à‰tats-Unis pour avoir refusé de céder sa place à  un passager blanc dans un autobus. Mais nous oublions souvent qu’elle n’est pas la première à  avoir fait ce geste brave. Claudette Colvin, sa prédécesseure, a tout permis, mais elle est celle qu’on a oubliée. Elle vit encore aujourd’hui aux à‰tats-Unis à  83 ans ».

Noire, la vie méconnue de Claudette Colvin  est une expérience immersive en réalité augmentée adaptée d’un essai biographique, écrit par Tania de Montaigne, qui retrace l’histoire de Claudette Colvin et son itinéraire de la lutte à  l’abandon.

Après avoir été  présentée à  guichets fermés au Centre Pompidou de Paris au début de l’année 2023 et après avoir été sélectionnée et présentée au BFI London Film Festival et au Tribeca Film Festival, cette expérience est une œuvre nécessaire qui mérite d’être vue pour en comprendre le message inspirant de sa protagoniste.

« Noire, la vie méconnue de Claudette Colvin » est une œuvre réalisée par Stéphane Foenkinos et Pierre-Alain Giraud d’après l’ouvrage de Tania de Montaigne  Noire, la vie méconnue de Claudette Colvin. Installation produite par Novaya en partenariat avec le Centre Pompidou, coproduite avec Flash Forward Entertainment (Taà¯wan).

« Nous sommes en 1989 et la culture rave est à  son apogée en Angleterre. Des raves illégaux sont organisés dans tout le pays, plus précisément dans des entrepôts abandonnés et d’autres lieux isolés. Prenez un  flyer et partez avec vos complices à  la recherche de ce rave, quelque part dans un lieu secret près de la ville de Coventry. Vous commencez par écouter des morceaux à  la maison, dénichez ensuite les airs de repos sombres et vides o๠se trouvent les cabines téléphoniques isolées pour recevoir les informations, et vivez enfin l’expérience de la libération euphorique lors de la fête ».

Présentée à  l’aide de la réalité virtuelle, cette œuvre transporte le public au cœur d’un rave au cours d’une nuit typique, accompagnée par les sons de l’Acid House old-school.

Après avoir été présentée au BFI London Film Festival, à  SXSW au Texas ou au International Documentary Film Festival à  Amsterdam (o๠l’œuvre à  d’ailleurs remportée le Immersive Non Fiction Award), cette création a connu beaucoup de succès à  travers le monde depuis sa première présentation à  Coventry en 2021.

« In Pursuit Of Repetitive Beats », de l’artiste primé Darren Emerson, a été initialement commandée et présentée dans le cadre du Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 et a été soutenue par le Fonds du film BFI, attribuant des fonds de la loterie nationale.

La présentation à  Montréal de « Noire, la vie méconnue de Claudette Colvin » est soutenue financièrement par le Consulat général de France à  Québec et le Conseil des arts de Montréal.

A compter du 16 février 2024, PHI présente également l’expérience VR collective L’Horizon de Khéops: un voyage en à‰gypte ancienne dans un espace loué pour l’occasion dans le Vieux-Port.
