Google Arts & Culture ouvre une première version virtuelle du musée national du Brésil, ravagé par les incendies

Le 2 septembre 2018, un incendie a largement détruit le Musée national du Brésil à Rio de Janeiro, l’une des plus grandes collections d’histoire naturelle au monde. Environ 20 millions de pièces ont été perdues, y compris des objets historiques indigènes, des restes de dinosaures et le plus ancien squelette humain jamais découvert dans les Amériques. Google vient de mettre en ligne une premier version du musée virtuel reconstitué.

Depuis 2016, Google Arts & Culture a commencé à travailler avec le musée national du Brésil à Rio de Janeiro pour mettre sa collection en ligne « afin que tout le monde, partout dans le monde, puisse voir et en savoir plus sur ces artefacts antiques ».

Moins de 4 mois après l’incendie dramatique, le public est invité pour la toute première fois à pénétrer virtuellement dans le musée et en apprendre davantage sur sa collection perdue gr ce aux images Street View et à plusieurs expositions en ligne.

Comme l’explique Chance Coughenour, chef de projet, sur le blog de Google Arts et culture: « la diversité incroyable d’objets dans le Musée national du Brésil reflète des siècles de la culture du Brésil et de l’ histoire naturelle, de la d’Amazon papillons en voie de disparition aux masques indigènes magnifiquement ficelé et la poterie décorée. Malheureusement, la destruction de telles collections nous rappelle les diverses menaces qui pèsent sur le patrimoine mondial et l’importance de le protéger ».

Les progrès technologiques, tels que la photographie haute résolution, la photogrammétrie, le balayage laser 3D et la réalité virtuelle et augmentée, ont non seulement introduit de nouvelles formes d’art, mais aident également à préserver le patrimoine le plus précieux du monde.

« Même si les images ne peuvent remplacer ce qui a été perdu, elles nous offrent un moyen de nous en souvenir » ajoute Google.

Le Musée national du Brésil se visite dès maintenant sur la plateforme Google Arts & Culture et sur ses applications iOS et Android.

Depuis l’incendie de septembre, plus plus de 1 500 objets ont été retrouvés dans les débris et le début du lent processus de restauration du musée serait en cours.

Le directeur du musée, Alexander Kellner, a déclaré qu’il était «important de souligner que le Musée national, bien qu’il ait perdu une partie importante de sa collection, n’a pas perdu sa capacité à générer des connaissances ».
