Europeana, la bibliothèque numérique européenne, relance sa collection thématique sur la Grande Guerre

Europeana, la Bibliothèque numérique européenne vient de (re)lancer officiellement cet été 2017 sa collection thématique Première Guerre mondiale contenant toutes sortes d’archives : histoires personnelles, films et documents historiques provenant de toute l’Europe. Ce site réunit des archives officielles (Bibliothèques, Institutions, etc.) mais aussi des archives personnelles de tous les européens contributeurs européens, récoltés après la Grande collecte lancée en 2011. Cette collection en ligne est baptisée « Europeana 1914-1918″.

Depuis 2011, avec ce projet, Europeana a réussi à rassembler une communauté entière d’européens en travaillant avec des partenaires de toute l’Europe : dans toutes les grandes comme petites villes européennes, des milliers de personnes ont apporté leurs documents, leurs photos, leurs artefacts et leurs histoires pour ensuite les faire scanner ou photographier afin de les ajouter à l’archive Europeana 1914-1918. C’est la Grande Collecte : une collecte sans frontière, relayée par toutes les grandes institutions partenaires d’Europeana, dans tous les pays d’Europe.

Europeana 1914-1918 continue encore aujourd’hui d’inviter les utilisateurs et les européens à enrichir la collection avec leurs contenus et souvenirs personnels liés à la Première Guerre mondiale.

Des documents personnels qui côtoient des documents officiels accessibles à tous

Avec le lancement en ligne de la collection Europeana 1914-1918 regroupant tous les documents numérisés, il est possible à présent d’avoir accès gratuitement à tous ces trésors personnels uniques sur la plateforme des collections Europeana 1914-1918. Pas de hiérarchie, les histoires personnelles récoltées (journal de guerre, lettres, photographies, cartes postales ou tout autre objet) sont aussi importantes que les documents officiels, une manière de rendre hommage à tous les anonymes et à toutes les familles ayant soufferts de la Grande Guerre. De plus, cela garantit une perspective unique pour Europeana 1914-1918, en racontant la guerre de tous les côtés des lignes de bataille, et ce sans frontière.

Europeana 1914-1918 mettra en lumière régulièrement ces contenus par le biais de publications sur son blog, dans ses galeries et ses expositions en ligne , mais aussi sur ses comptes Facebook , Twitter , Pinterest et dans sa newsletter.

Un Transcribathon pour célébrer le lancement de la collection en ligne : des européens engagés pour la valorisation de leur patrimoine

Pour le lancement de cette collection thématique unique et célébrer les accomplissement d’Europeana 1914-1918 réalisés jusqu’à présent, les 22 et 23 juin 2017, la Bibliothèque d’Etat de Berlin a accueilli le Campus Europeira Transcribathon Berlin 2017. Pendant plus de deux jours, des équipes intergénérationnelles de plusieurs pays européens ont participé à une compétition pour transcrire et comprendre les différents documents récoltés afin de les relier à d’autres sources historiques.

Non seulement ce Transcribathon, a permis d’enrichir davantage la collection Europeana 1914-1918 en permettant de faire se recouper différents documents après transcription, mais en poussant les gens de manière ludique, à retaper sur supports numériques des documents d’archives écrits à la main, les précieux écrits sont ainsi conservés pour toujours. Le Campus Europeira Transcribathon Berlin 2017 fait parti des nombreux transcribathon organisé par Europeana dans le cadre de la Grande Collecte : depuis le lancement de la série Transcribathon en novembre, plus de 12 000 documents et plusieurs millions de caractères ont été transcrits.
