L’exploration numérique du chef-d’œuvre de Leonardo Da Vinci, le Codex Atlanticus, disponible gratuitement en ligne

A l’occasion du 500ème anniversaire de la mort de Leonardo Da Vinci, le public du monde entier peut dorénavant explorer gratuitement le Codex Atlanticus. Une nouvelle expérience interactive inédite pour mieux comprendre le génie de l’inventeur et artiste mort à Amboise.

Le Codex Atlanticus est une collection de 1 119 pages d’atlas de dessins et d’écrits créés par Léonard de Vinci entre 1478 et 1519. Le Codex traite d’un grand nombre de sujets allant de la géométrie aux machines de guerre, en passant par la science humaine et l’architecture.

Une exploration numérique et gratuite

Depuis le 15 avril 2019, le site web bilingue (italien et anglais) et gratuit www.codex-atlanticus.it offre une vue d’ensemble du Codex Atlanticus, ainsi que des fonctions d’analyse profonde et analytique, pour explorer ce chef d’oeuvre de Leonardo Da Vinci. En réorganisant et en filtrant les pages du Codex, chacun peut découvrir l’évolution de la pensée et de réflexion scientifique de l’auteur de la Joconde.

Les visiteurs de www.codex-atlanticus.it peuvent parcourir le Codex à partir d’un aperçu panoramique organisé par sujet et par année de création des pages. En sélectionnant un sujet ou un thème particulier, il est possible de filtrer et d’afficher les pages présentant un intérêt particulier.

La possibilité de réorganiser les pages du Codex en fonction de leur ordre chronologique de création est particulièrement intéressante.

En choisissant une page spécifique, il est possible de voir le recto et le verso de la page et de zoomer sur les contenus, avant de passer à des pages de contenu similaire.

Monseigneur Francesco Braschi, directeur de la Biblioteca Ambrosiana, a déclaré que « le projet développé correspond parfaitement à notre mission, qui consiste à allier les plus hautes qualifications académiques et scientifiques à une capacité exceptionnelle de diffusion et de promotion du savoir sous toutes ses formes. Le projet rend le Codex Atlanticus accessible à tous et révèle son contenu magnifique, de manière structurée et complète, au grand public. »

Un outil in-situ installé à Milan

L’outil numérique d’exploration sera également accessible sur un écran tactile installé dans la célèbre salle Federicana, de la Biblioteca Ambrosiana de Milan, seul lieu d’exposition permanente de pages sélectionnées du Codex Atlanticus.

Les visiteurs du musée bénéficieront donc sur place de l’application interactive, et pourront étudier librement le Codex Atlanticus comme s’ils utilisient le site Web www.codex-atlanticus.it.

Une création italienne

Le projet a été initié et réalisé par The Visual Agency, une agence d’informations spécialisée dans la visualisation de données et l’infographie basée à Milan.

L’entreprise a conceptualisé, conçu et développé cet instrument innovant permettant aux utilisateurs de mieux comprendre le Codex Atlanticus.

« L’expertise principale de notre agence est la visualisation de données » explique Matteo Bonera, directeur de la création de l’agence Visual. « Cette technologie a été appliquée à ce projet d’humanités numériques, transformant la visualisation de données en un langage analytique apportant un nouvel éclairage à ce travail d’une complexité et d’une sophistication exceptionnelles ».

L’ensemble du projet repose sur la base de données électronique créée par The Visual Agency, basée sur les travaux d’Augusto Marinoni: « Le Codex Atlanticus de Léonard de Vinci: Index alphabétique des sujets ».

Dans cette publication, l’historien Marinoni a catalogué le contenu de chaque page en fonction du sujet et du moment de la création. Il a créé une vaste base de données qui, gr ce à l’application interactive, a permis d’analyser en profondeur les fragments de chaque page, l’heure de création, les sujets et les sous-sujets.

Le site Web a un design responsive, et est ainsi adapté pour un usage sur tous les mobiles et les tablettes. L’accès au site est gratuit et ne nécessite pas d’inscription.
