Patrimostat : fréquentation 2025 des musées et monuments français

63 % des Français ont effectué une visite patrimoniale au cours des 12 derniers mois en 2025, en baisse de quatre points par rapport à 2024 (67 %), indique l’édition 2026 de l’étude Patrimostat, fréquentation des sites patrimoniaux, publiée par le ministère de la Culture le 11 septembre 2026. L’an dernier, 61 % des Français déclarent avoir visité un monument (- 3 points par rapport à 2024) et 33 % un musée ou une exposition temporaire (- 6 points par rapport à 2024).

Chaque année, Patrimostat rassemble les données les plus récentes disponibles sur l’offre patrimoniale, les pratiques des publics et les niveaux de fréquentation, sur l’ensemble du territoire national. Les données de fréquentation sont collectées auprès des établissements patrimoniaux, puis analysées. Ce dispositif de suivi de la fréquentation existe depuis 1993.

L’étude 2026 comprend un panorama actualisé des patrimoines « labellisés », des études sur les publics, la fréquentation en 2025, ainsi que les données consolidées de 2024 pour l’ensemble des Musées de France, des Maisons des Illustres, des monuments nationaux et des archives de France.

Cette édition présente également une nouvelle fiche outil consacrée à l’estimation des émissions de gaz à effet de serre associées à la fréquentation des établissements patrimoniaux. Cette fiche est élaborée par le DEPS à partir des données de l’Ademe.

En 2025, la fréquentation cumulée de l’ensemble des établissements du panel est estimée à « plus de 47 millions d’entrées », en progression de 2 % par rapport à 2024 (+ 1 % par rapport à 2023). Cette hausse « confirme une relative stabilité de la fréquentation des grands équipements culturels », selon l’étude.

Les musées nationaux et lieux d’exposition totalisent 32,8 millions d’entrées, un niveau proche de celui de 2024 (+ 1 %), malgré plusieurs fermetures temporaires intervenues au cours de l’année. 2025 est notamment caractérisée par la fermeture du Centre Georges-Pompidou (Paris 4e) et la réouverture des tours de Notre-Dame de Paris (4e), toutes deux en septembre 2025. La fréquentation des musées nationaux par les touristes internationaux « recule légèrement dans certains des principaux établissements culturels » en 2025. Ils demeurent néanmoins majoritaires dans les musées les plus fréquentés. Jeune public : 7,6 millions d’entrées pour les moins de 18 ans (scolaires et hors scolaires) et 18-25 ans, dont 1,3 million de scolaires (Par rapport à 2024 ↓ 4 points).

Le Centre des monuments nationaux dépasse pour la première fois les 12 millions de visiteurs (12,2 millions d’entrées, +10% par rapport à 2024). Jeune public : 3,2 millions d’entrées de moins de 18 ans (scolaires et hors scolaires) et 18-25 ans, dont 528 000 scolaires.

Les monuments appartenant aux neuf domaines nationaux en accueillent « plus de 3,5 millions » (+ 15 % par rapport à 2024).

La fréquentation estivale représente 9,5 millions d’entrées en juillet et août, soit 22 % de plus qu’à l’été 2024 (marqué par les Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de Paris, et leur impact négatif sur la fréquentation de certains sites culturels) et + 1 % par rapport
à 2023.

Dans les musées

. En 2025, 33 % des Français ont visité un musée ou une exposition temporaire, en baisse de 6 points par rapport à 2024 (39 %).

. 14 % des Français ont visité un musée des beaux-arts, à égalité avec les musées d’histoire et de mémoire. 10 % ont visité un musée d’art moderne ou contemporain (XXe et XXIe siècles) ou un musée d’histoire naturelle, de sciences, techniques et industrie. Les catégories aisées, les personnes disposant d’un fort capital culturel, les Parisiens et les moins de 25 ans restent « surreprésentés » parmi les visiteurs des musées et expositions temporaires.

Dans les monuments

. En 2025, 61 % des Français déclarent avoir visité un monument, en baisse de 3 points par rapport à 2024 (64 %).

. 38 % des Français ont visité un monument religieux au cours des 12 derniers mois.

. 27 % des Français ont visité un château, des fortifications, un palais.

. 26 % ont visité un jardin remarquable, un parc historique, des serres ou une ville ou pays d’art et d’histoire, un quartier historique.

Les diplômés du supérieur, les hauts revenus, les cadres, ainsi que les habitants de l’agglomération parisienne sont, comme en 2025, « surreprésentés » parmi les personnes ayant visité un monument au cours des 12 derniers mois. Les moins de 25 ans et les étudiants figurent également parmi ceux qui ont plus souvent visité un monument qu’en moyenne.

Genre

Femmes : 60 % dans les musées, 56 % dans les monuments.

Hommes : 35 % dans les musées, 38 % dans les monuments.

Âge moyen

40 ans dans les musées et dans les monuments.

Il augmente de 2 ans dans les musées et baisse d’un an dans les monuments par rapport à 2024.

Situation professionnelle

59 % des visiteurs des musées et 46 % des visiteurs de monuments détiennent un bac +4 ou plus.

52 % des visiteurs de musées et 39 % des visiteurs de monuments sont cadres et professions intellectuelles supérieures.

Origine géographique

Musées nationaux : 50 % de touristes internationaux, 20 % de touristes nationaux et 30 % de publics locaux.

Monuments nationaux : 47 % de touristes internationaux, 38 % de touristes nationaux et 15 % de publics locaux.

Gratuité des entrées : 46 % d’entrées gratuites pour les musées (contre 54 % en 2024) et 41 % pour les monuments (contre 41 % en 2024).

Les modes de visite privilégiés

En couple : 29 % dans les musées, 38 % dans les monuments.

En famille : 36 % dans les musées, 43 % dans les monuments.

Entre amis : 19 % dans les musées, 15 % dans les monuments.

Seul : 17 % dans les musées, 7 % dans les monuments.

Primo-visiteurs

59 % des visiteurs des musées, en hausse de six points par rapport à 2024 (53 %).

75 % des visiteurs des monuments, en baisse de quatre points par rapport à 2024 (71 %).

Les principaux bénéfices d’une visite : En 2025, le principal bénéfice cité est l’apprentissage ou la (re)découverte, suivi du fait de partager un moment convivial.

  • Les mesures des Musées de France en faveur de l’écologie

Les Musées de France intègrent progressivement les préoccupations environnementales dans leur fonctionnement.

Les mesures les plus répandues concernent les vitrines et les socles réutilisables, déjà adoptés par 82 % des musées, ainsi que le recyclage ou réemploi des conditionnements (74 %).

Près de la moitié des établissements déclarent mener des actions de sensibilisation et de formation des équipes (48 %), tandis que les achats écoresponsables (47 %) et la réduction ou mutualisation des transports d’œuvres (45 %) constituent d’autres leviers mobilisés, suivis du choix du prêt d’œuvres en circuit court (36 %).

La réduction des impressions (livrets, cartons d’invitations, etc.) est entreprise par 34 % des musées et l’écoconception des expositions (réemploi des matériaux, matériaux biosourcés, etc.) par 33 % des établissements.

Cette appropriation encore limitée des outils de mesure et de pilotage environnemental peut s’expliquer par les coûts de réalisation, la complexité méthodologique et l’absence d’obligation réglementaire pour la plupart des musées.

Publiée chaque année à l’occasion des Journées européennes du patrimoine (JEP), elle offre ainsi une vision d’ensemble des patrimoines et de leurs publics, à partir de données vérifiées et comparables. Chaque année, le bureau dynamiques territoriales collecte auprès des établissements
patrimoniaux puis analyse, les données de fréquentation de différents sites. La collecte porte sur l’ensemble des établissements patrimoniaux sous tutelle du ministère de la Culture (musées, monuments, lieux d’expositions nationaux, archives nationales de France) et des sites bénéficiant de l’appellation « Musée de France » (soit plus de 1 200 musées) ou du label « Maison des Illustres » (274 maisons).

Un autre dispositif, alimenté par un panel de 76 établissements, sélectionnés en fonction de leur localisation, de leur fréquentation et de la spécialité de leur collection, permet d’obtenir des remontées mensuelles de fréquentation. Cumulée, la fréquentation de l’ensemble des établissements constituant ce panel représente 53 % des fréquentations totales des musées ayant l’appellation « Musée de France », des monuments nationaux en France et des Maisons des Illustres. À l’échelle des établissements nationaux (sous tutelle du ministère de la Culture), les fréquentations des 14 musées nationaux présents dans ce panel représentent en 2025, 92 % de la fréquentation de l’ensemble des musées nationaux (41 établissements). Les 6 monuments nationaux présents dans ce panel représentent 49 % des fréquentations totales des monuments nationaux. Ces données sont présentées dans la partie 3, « La fréquentation des patrimoines en 2025 », et font état de la fréquentation de l’année N–1.

Cette année, la publication s’enrichit d’une nouvelle fiche-outil consacrée à l’estimation des émissions de gaz à effet de serre associées à la fréquentation des établissements patrimoniaux. Cette fiche est élaborée par le DEPS à partir des données de l’Ademe.
